In the seventeenth century, we can see the earliest record of ice hockey on Dutch publications. Gentlemen skate on the frozen river with a round cake slide under the condition of wearing skating boots that are tied with bones. In the early 19th century, there appear records of Canada's Micmac Indians during a similar game, he use sticks and woods of round cakes.
Another argument is that ice hockey originated in an ancient American sport called lacrosse. But a theory, which is widely spread and received is that the field hockey is the predecessor of ice hockey. Hockey has a long history of more than five hundred years and it stemmed from northern Europe. This kind of sport was introduced to North America by British soldiers who were stationed in Canada.
On December 25, 1855 in Canada, the first game was held in Kingston. The sport of ice hockey preached to Europe in 1858. Canada started to use disc ice hockey in 1860, which was made of rubber. At that time, each team has thirty players in the field. In 1879, Canada McGill University students, Professor Robertson and Smith work out the rules of the game. They require that each team can have nine players in a game. In Canada, hockey quickly became the most popular item. In 1885, the first Amateur Hockey Association was established; people who like playing hockey can attend it. But it seemed to be unreasonable that the Association collected a fee from amateurs. To analyze the development at this stage, you can find that athletes began to use more equipments to ensure the safety problem of the body, such as the goalkeeper is of great use the board as well as put on a mask.
Later, ice hockey spread to the United States and Europe. Canadian ice hockey team brought their ice hockey show to the United States for the first time in the year of 1893. The league headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. British was the winner in the first ice hockey tournament, which was held in 1910. Seven years later, the Hockey League of the United States was established. In 1967, only six teams participate in the game. In recent years, NHL has become the world's professional and commercial league.
In 1912, Canadian National Hockey Association first introduced the method of playing with six people, and is used by the International Ice Hockey League until now. And the influence of the NHL also becomes bigger and is similar to the NBA of the world's basketball. American Hockey League's Stanley Cup is a legendary honor. Women's ice hockey began in the 1860s.
